Conduction
Conduction is a way that energy can be transferred. Metals have a high thermal conductivity so are great conductors (see the full experiment in real time in the video at the bottom of this page).
Convection
When a fluid (liquid of gas) is heated it expands, becomes less dense and rises up. This is called convection
